This year at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Japanese automaker Honda unveiled a car set to pave the way into a new era of alternative powertrains. Called the FCEV, this sporty concept offers a futuristic look that the automaker says will lend itself to future production models.
If that's the case, then it's time for fans of stylish autos in Ames, IA to put their party hats on.
The prototype's design is pretty space age: with a low slung body and extremely aerodynamic lines, it looks more like it was meant to fly than drive down a highway. The rear wheel-well is covered by angular faring, and the grille (and whole front end for that matter) looks like it came right out of Star Trek.
It looks good, but the real meat and potatoes is its hydrogen-powered underpinning. Boasting a 100kW fuel cell stack with a 3kW/L power density, it's a great improvement over Honda's other H2 auto, the FCX Clarity. What's more, when fully charged, it can garner around 300 miles in range.
While Honda has been mum on when a production iteration of this car will reach dealerships like Honda of Ames, chances are we'll see its design language (or some of its attributes) on a new Honda model by 2015.
That may be too long to wait for some drivers, which is why we invite you to come down to our dealership and see what catches your eye in the present. We have a variety of green autos to choose from, such as the fun Fit EV and the Civic Hybrid.
